Award-Winning Makeup Designer Judy Chin Speaks About “Black Swan”

Dec 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis starer “Black Swan” released on December 3 and the movie is already doing rounds for its complicated plot, intense drama and much hyped lesbian scenes between the actresses. Darren Aronofsky’s psychological thriller has also received appreciation for its costumes, striking make-up and backdrop. Judy Chin, the award-winning make-up designer is presently excited as her work in “Black Swan” has received praises from the critics and viewers alike.
Natalie Portman’s winged eye makeup, her dark romantic look and obviously her lip make-up is something the audience would not forget for a long time. In an exclusive interview to a reputed media source, make up designer Judy Chin said that she was trying to create something that would be striking and would help to convey the idea of evil vs good. She said that she also referred to New York City Ballet’s “Swan Lake”s costumes while preparing for the movie. However, she said that makeup is all about the mood of a person but when she drew her ideas and showed the final outcome to Darren Aronofsky, the director immediately liked it.
When asked what was Judy Chin’s idea behind “Black Swan”s look, the makeup designer said that she wanted to make Natalie Portman’s skin look almost “stony” and hence she used lot of black colors to give it a dark look. Judy Chin gave intrinsic details about how she made the actress look perfect for her character. While speaking about this “Black Swan” look, the make-up artist said that if someone knows how to adopt it, then it would do wonders for an evening look.
