Los Angeles, Mar 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The biggest grossing movie of all times - Avatar might have a re-release in the summers. Speculations are rife that the movie might have minted some more dough, if it hadn’t have to vacant the digital and the IMAX screens in March, for the 3D version of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland. So the producers are planning another release in the summers, to make up for the losses, and notch some more box-office records in the process.
Director of Avatar and Titanic – James Cameron also revealed that they were getting to know “the word we’re getting back from exhibitors is we probably left a couple hundred million dollars on the table as a result,” of making room for the 3D version of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland.
According to the box-office figures, Avatar had made around $127.1 million in the IMAX theatres alone, for the week ending on the 4th of March. The IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond said that they were in talks with the producers, to re-release the movie in the summers, and to add some novelty to the summer re-release, they were planning to add some chopped off scenes too. Richard Gelfond said that around 40 minutes of the movie was chopped off, in order to release the movie on the 18th of December 2009.
