‘Avatar’ becomes fastest movie ever to hit $1bn in sales
January 4th, 2010 - 1:52 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Jan 4 (ANI): James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’, the most expensive film ever, could also be on track to be the most successful as it broke the 1-billion-dollar mark at box offices worldwide over the weekend.
Since its opening last month, the 3D sci-fi spectacular has earned more than 350 million dollars in the US and more than 670 million dollars in the rest of the world in only 17 days, says distributors 20th Century Fox
The latest figures make ‘Avatar’ already the fourth-biggest film ever made.
Ahead of it are ‘Titanic’, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’.
“This is like a freight train out of control. It just keeps on going,” the BBC quoted 20th Century Fox distribution executive Bert Livingston as saying.
“I think everybody has to see Avatar once, even people who don’t normally go to the movies, they’ve heard about it and are saying, ‘I have to see it’.
“Then there are those people seeing it multiple times,” he added. (ANI)
