October 16, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Srijit Mukherjee is all set to walked the red carpet along with Prosenjit Chatterjee and Nandana Sen at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival on October 14 for their film Autograph. The film has been creating quite hype back in India and is expected to make an impact among the intellectual audience. Autograph is Srijit’s first directorial venture and it is surely an achievement to have one’s debut film being premiered at an international film festival.

The film has drawn its inspiration from Ingmar Bergman’s Wild Strawberries and Satyajit Ray’s Nayak. All these three films, Nayak, Wild Strawberries and Autograph delve into the journey of life in various modes.  While Autograph has two simultaneous narratives of the reel and the real world and the two relationships formed between a journalist and an actor, at the same time another relationship between an actress, director and the superstar of the film industry.

Ray’s Nayak too is fragmented with stories from the superstar’s life and while he forms a bond with a journalist on train, on the other hand Bergman’s Wild Strawberries too has a fragmented narrative of the protagonists life as he is plagued by his impending death, old age and is being forced to re-evaluate his life as he takes a road trip with his daughter-in-law.
Mukherjee has tried to work on the relationship of his characters and going by the first response among the intellectuals of the Bengal he has been successful in doing so. One now has to wait to see the reaction the film gets from the festival.
