Audrey Hepburns ex hubby Mel Ferrer dies at 90
June 4th, 2008 - 3:48 pm ICT by ANILondon, June 4 (ANI): Actor-filmmaker and first husband to iconic leading lady Audrey Hepburn, Mel Ferrer passed away at the age of 90, a spokesman for his family has said.
The star of the epic period dramas War and Peace and The Sun Also Rises died on June 2 at his ranch in California surrounded by family and friends.
Ferrers son Mark said his dad had been in failing health for about six months.
“It’s a sad occasion, but he did live a long and productive life,” BBC quoted family spokesman Mike Mena, as saying.
Ferrer and Hepburn became engaged in 1954 when appearing together in the New York play Ondine, and married later that year.
Later in his career, Ferrer increasingly directed and produced films for television.
Ferrer and Hepburn divorced in 1968. (ANI)
