Audiences prefer 3D over 3I
January 12th, 2010 - 6:00 pm ICT by Sampurn WireJames Cameron’s Avatar seems to be giving stiff competition to 3 Idiots at the box office. While the collections of 3 Idiots in markets like USA, UK and Australia are way too meager to even be considered against those of Avatar, the Hollywood flick is beating 3 Idiots at the local box office too.
According to the latest collection figures of last weekend, Avatar’s (in 3D English) is clearly ahead of 3 Idiots in multiplexes in the Northern belt (predominantly a Hindi speaking market). While the collections of Aamir Khan’s film were reported to be Rs.24 lakhs from the four major multiplexes where 3D is available, Avatar raced ahead with a collection of around 39 Lakhs. In fact in PVR select city and PVR ambience, Avatar (3D) has already grossed a record breaking Rs.1.5 crore each.
