‘As The World Turns’ Star Helen Wagner Dies

Helen WagnerMay 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Helen Wagner, the star of the CBS soap ‘As the World Turns’ passed away on Saturday at the ripe age of 91. Helen Wagner became popular as Nancy Hughes, the matriarch on the hit television show ‘As the World Turns’, a role she brilliantly portrayed for more than fifty years of her acting career.

Helen Wagner’s stint on the CBS sitcom has even earned her a place at the Guinness Book of World Records for her record stint of 54 years. Apart from the fact that she is one of the actors listed on the Guinness World Records for having enacted the same character for the longest time onscreen, Helen Wagner is also the proud owner of a Lifetime Achievement Award which she received from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in the year 2004. The actress also has to her name a plaque that she had received from the Buddy Holly Walk of Fame.

It was Helen Wagner who had voiced the first dialogue in the TV show ‘As the World Turns’. Quite expectedly, everybody on the sets of the show is missing her immensely. Christopher Goutman, the producer of the show issued a statement to the press where he said that the character of Nancy Hughes will remain at the “heart and soul” of the show. He expressed his condolences to the dead actress on behalf of the entire cast and crew. Helen Wagner had last shot for the sitcom in the month of March this year, the episode was aired some days back on the 5th of April.
