London, Feb 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Arlene Phillips has denied that she was replaced on the “Strictly Come Dancing” show because of age.

Arlene was replaced on the BBC show with the former winner of the show, Alesha Dixon in 2008. Some viewers have complained about the change with some suggesting that it is because Dixon is much younger that’s why Arlene’s position has been given to her.

Arlene was on the show’s panel of judges until 2008 when Dixon took over from the choreographer. She hasn’t talked about the switch since then.

However when Arlene appeared on Miriam O’Reilly’s Countryfile show, she spoke about the issue for the first time. Arlene refuted the rumor that she was axed from the show because of her age saying “No, not at all. She (Dixon) was a different person - hired to give a different approach. Absolutely not, no.”

She however believes that viewers of the show drew that conclusion because she hasn’t spoken about it since. She explains that she just had a year’s contract from the producers of the show and the parties were not mandated to renew the contract after its expiration.

The full interview will be shown on ITV this evening on the program “Too Old for TV?” at 19:30 GMT.
