Buenos Aires, March 14 (IANS/EFE) Argentine radio personality Angel “Baby” Etchecopar and his son were wounded in an attempted robbery at the family’s home in suburban Buenos Aires, the host’s employer said Tuesday.

The incident occurred Monday night, when three assailants grabbed 24-year-old Federico Etchecopar as he was saying goodbye to his girlfriend at the door of her home in San Isidro.

The attackers forced Federico to drive them to his family’s San Isidro residence, where the would-be robbers threatened Angel Etchecopar, his wife and the couple’s pregnant daughter.

Angel challenged the assailants with a gun, spurring an exchange of shots that left him and his son wounded.

“Baby” received three shots in the leg, but is out of danger, while Federico was shot four times and remains at a clinic in San Isidro as doctors continue to evaluate his injuries, according to the Infobae media group.

One of the assailants died in the gunbattle, a second was detained soon after the incident and the third remains at large.

The dead robber had a criminal record for kidnapping, according to Infobae’s C5N television, which cited police as saying that 18 shots were fired inside the Etchecopar house.

Angel Etchecopar, an actor, works for Infobae’s Radio 10 and also appears on television.
