New York, Apr 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Archie comics is all set to have their very first ‘openly gay character’ Kevin Keller. He is going to join Archie’s gang very shortly. The gay character would make his debut in ‘Veronica’ No. 202, which would go on sale in September. He would be a new character in the series, and Veronica is going to have a hard time, because he pays no attention to her and her charms, as he is gay.
Dan Parent who is the brain behind the series and also the artist and the writer, said that they were bringing about change in the comic strip, because they want to reflect the change that the society is going through. “We’re trying to reflect society and we’re just trying to show Riverdale is a diverse place,” said Dan Parent. He also said that he is hoping against hope that Kevin is taken in a positive manner by the society, and that there isn’t a big hue and cry about the inclusion of a gay character.
The Archie Comics Co-CEO Jon Goldwater said that since the announcement of the openly gay character in the comic series, he has got a lot of positive feedback about the idea. “Riverdale is a safe place for everybody. Everyone’s welcome with Archie and the Gang, and that’s the message we’re trying to send,” Goldwater stated.
