This week the Idol’s contestant were allowed to choose pretty much any song they wanted. The evening of turned out dull and a crap for the viewers at home.

Ryan Seacrest was the de facto mentor this week, giving the kids a look into AT 40, the radio countdown show that Casey Kasem started back in the ’70s. Anoop Desai made his way through the Usher song.

The judges didn’t enjoy the song by Megan Joy take on Bob Marley’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low.”
Corkery didn’t advance to the Top 8 because of the weak performance and also got an unanimous “disappointment” from the judges after a very weak and “playing safe” performance.

The bottom three for this week are Anoop Desai, Allison Iraheta, and the fresh eliminated finalist, Megan Joy. Anoop performance was tagged as “wannabe”, while Allison’s performance was called “overacting” and “irritating” by some.

Simon: “It was a little bit like a college boy wanting to be a pop star and failing. It actually gave me a headache.”

Megan Joy, who sang Bob Marley’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low.”
Simon: “All of the things we liked about you are disappearing.”
Lil Rounds, who performed “I Surrender” by Celine Dion
Simon: “All of your personality is being sucked out of you.”
