Geneva, Mar 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actor Antonio Banderas has been named as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). According to ABC Australia, the Spanish actor is all set to do his bit for the world, in his new role as the UNDP Goodwill Ambassador. He will have the assignment to fight poverty on a global basis.
The star of Evita said that, “Poverty robs us of our potential as a people, preventing us from being all that we can be. This is why it is so important to mobilize all of our efforts to defeat it.” The 49-year-old Spanish actor seems all geared up to challenge poverty and make a difference as a goodwill ambassador.
The United Nations Development Program said that the Spanish actor would utilize his celebrity status to make the world sit up and notice the Millennium Development Goals. The Millennium Development Goals have a lot of targets, like they want to reduce world poverty by 50% in four years. The Millennium Development Goals also want to reduce hunger, disease, illiteracy, pollution and discrimination against the women folk. The chief of the UNDP, Helen Clark said that, “[Banderas's] proven commitment to the causes of the less fortunate makes him an ideal advocate for our work.”
