April 23, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Scottish composer and recording artist, Annie Lennox, captivated tons of spectators when she performed ‘Chain of Fools’ with another singing prodigy, Aretha Franklin, at a special episode of the American Idol called ‘ Idol Gives Back’. But that performance also left a lot of people bewildered because Lennox sported a t-shirt with the words ‘HIV Positive’ embossed on it while performing.

The singer herself is not HIV positive and her rationale behind wearing the t-shirt purportedly was to only make a stand and demonstrate assistance to millions of people contaminated by HIV.

Lennox, who is a crusader against HIV/AIDS, witnessed someone sporting a daring ‘HIV Positive’ shirt in South Africa in 2004. She thought that it was a bright idea to illustrate harmony with the people who are plagued by HIV but are frightened to candidly become visible and explicate that they are HIV positive.

Lennox established the SING campaign in the year 2007 to assist people suffering from HIV in South Africa. The money acquired by SING is also utilized to thwart the dissemination of HIV in South Africa. She got motivated by an address delivered in South Africa on the subject by Nelson Mandela.
