Los Angeles, Aug 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Anne Hathaway has been criticized for her accent in the Lone Scherfig adaptation of David Nicholls bestselling novel “One Day.” Critics say the actress had an uneven accent in the movie. The actress has been defended.

Ben Trawick-Smith who is an actor and a dialect coach told the website huffingtonpost.com that the part played by Hathaway was a tricky one in the movie. In the movie, Hathaway was Emma Morley. The main character was in search for something better in her life and that sent her through several challenges. That eventually pushed her to pursue a better education in a university in Edinburgh.

Ben explained that, “she clearly makes the latter sound less “Northern” than the former, which is a “pretty darn nuanced thing for an actor to do.”

Hathaway recently praised the Duchess of Cambridge for “dressing like a lady.” During an interview with USA Today, the actress said that, “’Can I tell you how grateful I am to Kate Middleton? Because she is such an advocate for dressing like a lady.”

She also spoke about her own struggle with choosing a wardrobe that suited her personality. Hathaway has played a Royal in a movie before. She was a princess in the movie Princess Diaries.
