Oct. 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the death of the famous comedian/actor ‘Soupy Sales’, all the pie-in-face personalities are yet again in the news, one such being Anita Bryant. She was herself the victim of a pie thrown. It was thrown at her by the students that protested against her homophobic sayings. According to David Horowitz, who also received a pie in his face, the pie-throwers generally meant, “I hate you. I don’t want you to speak.” Anita was hit with the pie when involved in an ‘anti-gay rally’, in Des Moines in Iowa. She was in mid-prayer when she got hit with a ‘banana cream pie’. She finished her prayer with the cream dripping from her face.

Anita is a widely known American singer. She is even more popular for her anti-gay rights campaigns (1977) and views. Due to her views the products that were advertised by her, became the victims of boycott around the countries. By the end of 1980s she stopped voicing her views, that created such a hoopla, and unsuccessfully returned to be being just a musician. In her career she gave around four ‘Top 40 Hits’. Her #5 track was “Paper Rose”. She remains a member of a ‘conservative church’ that is affiliated with ‘Southern Baptist Convention’.

Some of her famous work includes, ‘Till there was you’ (1959), ‘Six boys and seven girls’(1959), ‘Paper Rose’ and ‘In my little corner of the world’ (1960), ‘I cant do it by myself’ in 1961, and, ‘The world of lonely prayer’(1964). Other single hits include, ‘Step by step’, ‘Welcome, welcome home’, ‘The battle hymn of the republic’, ‘The wedding’. etc.
