Los Angeles, June 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Deadline has reported that Angelina Jolie is in talks with producers to star as Evelyn Salt in a planned sequel to the spy movie “Salt.” The report said Kurt Wimmer who initially wrote the script of the movie last year will be the director of the sequel replacing Phillip Noyce on the set.

Noyce declined an offer last year to direct a sequel to the movie. During an interview last December, Noyce said that, “Those three Blu-ray cuts represent just about everything I have to offer on Evelyn Salt …If there ever is a sequel, better it’s directed by someone with a completely fresh take on what I believe could be a totally entertaining and complex series of stories.”

Jolie made a name for herself when she successfully played the role that was original written for Tom Cruise. She played the role of a Russian sleeper spy and she will play the same character, if the deal is finalized. That marked a notable milestone in Hollywood because it showed that gender was no longer a barrier for producers. Released during the hugely reported arrest of Anna Chapman and nine other suspected Russian spies in the United States, the movie became a success grossing about $300 million outside the United States and Canada in box office revenues.
