angLos Angeles, June 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Angela Lansbury, the five time Tony-winning British actress, has been named the first Honorary Chairwoman of the American Theatre Wing.

The announcement had been made on June 13, Sunday, while the ceremony of the Tony Awards were in progress. The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Bord of Directors of the American Theatre Wing, Theodor S. Chapin, who introduced the well known actress on the stage and announced that she has been appointed as the first ever Honorary Chairwoman of the American Theatre Wing.

Needles to say, this has come as a great honor for the actress as well, for whom, a great career with American theater, television and films would not have existed had it not been for this very institution.

In fact, that was exactly what Angel Lansbury elaborated upon when she accepted the position on the stage of the Tony Awards ceremony. She went on to say that she had come to the United States, in New York, about 70 years back, with nothing on her except her family and a wish to continue with her ongoing education in acting, which she was forced to sop after she had to escape from London, which was in the midst of a war at that point of time.

She was able to continue her education when the American Theatre Wing arranged a scholarship for her, on the grants of which she was able to resume studying and eventually had a ‘wonderful career.’

Angela Lansbury referred to the position as a ‘prestigious honor’ being granted to her, and hoped that all of the hopefuls wishing to make it big in the wold of histrionics would be able to make avail of all the resources offered to them.
