Anand Jon jailed for 59 yrs for rape
September 1st, 2009 - 5:41 pm ICT by IBNSLos Angeles/New Delhi, Sept 1 (IBNS) India-born fashion designer Anand Jon has been sentenced to 59 years imprisonment for sexually abusing teenage girls and women from 2002-2007.
Jon was arrested in March 2007 and convicted November 2008 for a series of 16 sex crimes, including rape and sexual battery.
Los Angeles Superior Court Monday sentenced him to 59 year imprisonment.
Prosecutors at Los Angeles Superior Court had accused him of preying on a string of girls and women aged between 14 and 21 over a six-year period from 2002 to 2007.
Nine women testified against Jon during his trial. Most of the designer’s victims were aspiring models lured into meetings with Jon and forced into sex, prosecutors said.
Majid Menon, Jon’s family lawyer, said: “It is sad that the boy (Jon), is left like this. It is very strange that all the girls who alleged that they have been molested or raped by Jon, have a single scratch on their bodies to show that there were any resistance from their side. And then, why did the girls filed their complaints weeks after the incidents?
“It is unfortunate that Jon was left alone and I hope his mother and sister will now move to an appeal for the court to consider.”
Anand Jon Alexander, 35, is a star designer whose clothes are worn by celebrities including Paris Hilton and Mary J. Blige.
