London, Nov 30 (THAINDIAN NEWS) During the ‘Passion For Fashion’ auction in London on Tuesday, the dress worn by late singer Amy Winehouse on the back of the album ‘Back To Black’ was sold for more than double the estimated value. The dress which was designed by Thai fashion guru Disaya was sold at £43,200.

The dress was bought by a fashion museum in Chile. The dress was placed under the hammer by the family of Amy and they plan to use the proceeds to fund the Amy Winehouse Foundation which seeks to help addicts.

At the event at London’s Kerry Taylor Auctions, Amy’s father Mitch explained to reporters that, “We want to give money to projects that make a direct difference. It is a source of great comfort to know that Amy would be proud of this and right behind it. Obviously we want to try and raise money for the family and the grandchildren so that they will be able to be helped by Amy too in the years to come so that was very important. We all need to survive.”

Before the auction sales, the auction house was expecting the dress to fetch at most £20,000 but it ended up picking more than twice that amount. Another dress which was expected to be a hot cake at the auction failed to get a bidder.

The lace garment that she famously wore to collect the Oscar for her role in the movie ‘Roman Holiday’ was expected to sell between £40,000 and £60,000.
