American Idol’s ‘Idol gives back’ likely to break records!April 10th, 2008 - 4:17 pm ICT by amritpal
Last year the ‘Idol gives back’ raised $76 million and this year the “ambitious” target was apparently $100 million. However, in this years show, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown pledged a staggering $200 million in the form of 20 million mosquito nets, worth $10 each. OMG!
Robin Williams, Celine Dion, Forest Whitaker, Billy Crystal, Dane Cook, Kiefer Sutherland, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Jennifer Connolly, Elliott Yamin, Fantasia and Amy Adams join previously announced international talent and sports figures Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Maroon 5, Heart and Gloria Estefan - All did a wonderful job by appealing for donating whopping sum of money (not yet disclosed). This is a good news for the children of America and Africa and all the charitable institutions which are The Children’s Defense Fund, Children’s Health Fund, The Global Fund, Make It Right, Malaria No More, Save the Children. These charitable organizations have a proven track record of making a positive impact through responsible giving.
The beginning was marked by a group song “Don’t Stop the Music.” and the show went on smoothly with its trademark appeals interspersed with jokes and music. However, for most of the people watching the show, the defining moment came when Annie Lennox was shown interviewing a family of four African boys. These kids ages 3 to 15 were orphaned because their parents died of AIDS. Annie Lennox was visibly moved by their condition and with her was the entire country.
Let’s hope the show “Idol Gives Back” gets bigger and better with each passing year.
