American Idol: Top Nine Perform Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
April 7th, 2011 - 6:16 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonApr 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Last week on ‘American Idol’, we said goodbye to both Thia and Naima. We had to let two contestants go home, since Casey had gotten the save the prior week. This week we will only be sending home one of the nine contestants who are left. Which one will it be?
Last night on Idol, the theme was ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’. The night opened up with Jacob singing Michael Jackson’s ‘Man in the Middle’. Randy told him that he was glad to see Jacob had changed, and that he was proud of him. He added that there were “moments all over that” and that it was hot. Steven told Jacob that everytime he performs, he brings another piece of himself to the stage, and Jennifer said, “If you believe in yourself, you can do anything. That is what you do when you sing. Perfect in every way.”
Haley came next to perform ‘Piece of my Heart’ from the year 1968. Randy told her that she made the song bluesy and welcomed her back. Steve could not find a thing wrong with it, and said it took him back to 1968, adding, “You nailed it.” Jennifer said that she looked like she was fighting for it, and had showed people that she is a contender.
Casey came next with ‘Have You Ever Seen the Rain’ and showed everyone once again why the judges gave him the save. Casey played the upright bass along with the song, and Randy loved it.”You are making the upright bass cool, man!” Steven told him he is not just a singer, he is a true musician, that he had the full package, which is what the show is all about. Jennifer said that the stage is where Casey belongs, “Right there, with the base, I’m paying top dollar to be there.”
Sixteen year old Georgia girl, Lauren sang ‘Natural Woman’. Steve told her that she had grown so much, and that she came to them as an immature girl, but last night she shined as a natural woman. Jennifer thought she as amazing, and Randy felt that although others had come before her in previous seasons to blow the song away, he felt she did a good job with it.
James slowed things down with the tune ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’. His vocals were amazing. Randy told him that he loved seeing his emotional side, and that he saws the way he really connected with the lyrics. Randy went on to tell James that taking chances like he did tonight is the only way to be a true artist. Steve called it a “proud moment” for James, and said that the guitar softly weeped and so did he. Jennifer loved seeing the other side of James, that side that makes the Rock n Roll side work. She felt that the song was a great choice for James.
Scotty chose the Elvis song, ‘That’s Alright Mama’. It was a cute performance for the sixteen year old country singer. Randy screamed that Scotty is in it to win it. Steven added, “I thought you were all hat and no cattle, but you brought Elvis Presley into the building….” Jennifer said, “I know you are a country guy, but do you watch rap, or hip hop, cause I feel a little bit of flavor..”
Pia chose ‘River Deep, Mountain High’ as her song, and finally showed personality. Steven called her a murderer and said she killed it. Jennifer called it amazing, and said she proved herself vocally, and said that Pia is special, and that she would keep pushing her, because she is great. She advised her to study performers, and go on the next level, “You are spectacular.” Randy said that they all believed in her, but that Pia had showed him what he already knew, that she could deliver on an up tempo song.
Stefano performed ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’, which started off a bit high. Randy said that it started off jerky, and that he liked it but wasn’t jumping up and down Steven disagreed, but agreed to disagree. He loved his range, and thought it was great. Jennifer agreed with Steven, and loved it.
Paul was the last performance of the night with ‘Folsom Prison Blues’. Randy loved it, as did Steven who said that Paul rocked the house. Jennifer felt it was a terrific way to end the show. Ryan Seacrest reminded everyone that there were a record fifty five million votes last week, and challenged everyone to break that. Tune in tonight to see who goes home, and who the top eight will be on ‘American Idol’!
