American Idol: Top 9 Do Lennon-McCartney Songs

Apr 07 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Last night on American Idol, the top nine performers who were left sang songs from John Lennon’s and Paul McCartney’s songbook.

Aaron started off last night’s “American Idol” with “The Long and Winding Road” and he did okay, but I have seen him do so much better. The judges all seemed to feel the same way. Ellen said “It was a long and winding song.” Katie did an awesome job with “Let It Be” and the judges all made it known that they loved it. Andrew did a performance of “Can’t Buy Me Love” and Simon compared it to a guitar player at a wedding. “Big Mike’s” performance made Randy feel that he is blossoming like Katie, but Simon felt it was too much like musical theater.

Next up…Crystal rocked out to “Come Together” accompanied by a man playing the didgeridoo. All of the judges loved her performance. Simon said that it was a version which he could listen to on the radio today no matter how old the song was. Crystal is awesome and easy to like! Tim came next and sang “All My Loving” and did a terrific job. Tim has really surprised me with how far he has came since the beginning of the show. He has shown great improvement, and much more confidence as well. He said he chose the song because it was more him. “I just wanted to pick a song that was more “me” and this was was…”

Casey came out next with “Jealous Guy” and Randy said that it seemed very heart felt. Ellen said “Whether it was about anyone you know or not, it sounded like it was. I was moved by it, your best to date.” Kara said tonight was very tasteful and showed depth. Simon called it “The best performance of the night.” He called Casey by the new nickname the other contestants are calling him, “Goldilocks,” much to his dismay. He said many of the people back home will be laughing at that.

Siobhan wanted to show a different side of her voice last night, so she sang “Across The Universe.” It was beautiful. Randy said that he loves watching every week just to see what she is going to do and wear. He loved the whole tender side if her last night, but it was a little sleepy. Ellen loves that Siobhan marches to the beat of her own drum. She loved that she was different in her singing as well. Simon asked Siobhan what she was thinking of when she sang, ans she said it was her little sisters. She became teary eyed as she told how she feels about them and related to the song. As Simon was telling how he felt, a member of the audience yelled out for the second time of the night. Simon asked him to stand, but “the boss” said it was okay, so they ignored him. It ended up to be a man named “Earl.”

Lee finished up the night with “Hey Jude” accompanied by men in full Scottish garb, complete with bagpipes. Randy thought the men in kilts was funny. He said this was another hot performance. Ellen said his confidence last night was great. She loved it. Kara said Lee definitely felt more comfortable on stage. Simon laughed at the didgeridoo and then bagpipes and felt the bagpipes were distracting. Lee said that the bagpipes were all his idea. So let’s tune in tonight and see who will be going home!
