American Idol: Top 3 PerformMay 19th, 2011 - 10:09 am ICT by Angela Kaye Mason
May 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Haley, Scotty, and Lauren were still giddy from their home town visits when the show opened last night on ‘American Idol’. This week the first song choice was the contestant’s pick, with Beyonce as a mentor. Each contestant was to sing three different songs as the show heads even closer to the finale. The second song choice was picked by Jimmy Irvine, and the third pick was from the judges.
For his very first song, Scotty chose to sing ‘Amazed’ by Lonestar. It is a terrific song, which even Beyonce loved. He sounded …well amazing. Steven told him that he just keeps getting better and better each week, and that it was really beautiful. Jennifer said it was great to see how much Scotty had grown over the weeks as a performer. She felt it was a great way to start the show. Randy said it was a good song choice, and he loved that Scotty knows who he is and picks the right songs for him.
For Scotty’s second performance, Jimmy Irvine picked ‘Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not?’. It was not as good as his first, but Steven loved it. Jennifer said there were many moments which she loved. Randy said that it was a great song for him.
The judges picked ‘She Believes in Me’ by Kenny Rodgers for the third performance by Scotty. He did an outstanding job. Steven said that he put it over the top. Jennifer said those had chosen the song to see if he could hit that big chorus, “Guess you showed us…” she added. Randy said it was very nicely done.
Lauren chose ‘Wild One’ for her first song last night. It was a good performance, although not as good as some of her past shows. Jennifer said she attacked it well, and Randy loved her fearlessness. Steven loved the way she sang the song like she owned it.
Jimmy chose ‘If I Die Young’ by the Band Perry for the second song by Lauren. She stepped it up a bit with this one. Jennifer said that Lauren had the most beautiful tone of all the finalists. Randy agreed that her tone was beautiful and said it was a great song choice by Jimmy. Steven loved it as well, and felt that she nailed it.
The judge’s pick for Lauren was ‘I Hope You Dance’. She really rocked it. Jennifer had chill bumps, and dared to say she won the round. Randy said that she slayed it. Steven said she waled out on stage like she owned the Grand Ole Opry. He loved it and felt she did terrific.
For Haley’s first song, she chose Led Zeppelin’s ‘What is and What Should Never Be’ with her father accompanying her on the guitar. They sounded awesome together. Just as she was ending the second chorus, however, she tripped which threw her off for a bit, but she managed to keep going. Randy yelled, “This is what it’s all about!” He called her fearless and said this was one of her best performances ever. Steven asked her if she fell for him. He called her performance superb. Jennifer said that everyone falls on stage, but that the sign of a professional is that they keep on going, which she did.
Jimmy chose ‘Rhiannon’ for the second tune by Haley. Randy felt that she had perfect pitch and he loved the growl at the end. Steven said it was sang beautifully, and Jennifer felt that it was a beautiful moment.
For Haley’s third song, the judges chose ‘You Outta Know’ by Alannis Morsette. Although she started out slow, she really rocked the song. Randy felt that it was amazing to see her rock it out like that. Steven said that it was amazing, and incredible, and Jennifer said that it was a really good job.
