American Idol: Top 24 Chosen
February 17th, 2010 - 9:47 pm ICT by Angela Kaye Mason
Feb 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Imagine for a moment that you have waited, hoped, dreamed, and auditioned with thousands of people trying to get on American Idol. Consider how it would feel to finally make it through Hollywood week, and now you, and 70 other people have each auditioned, and waited two hours to find out if you have made it. The judges step into the room, to announce your fate…
The “American Idol” contestants which had made it to Hollywood had to each take their turn singing for the judges, and were broken up into three groups to sit in different rooms to find out their fate. They had no feedback to give them any hints at all. They waited for two hours as the judges deliberated over who was going on to the next level. Seventy-one people waited in hopes of becoming the next American Idol. Only 24 were to be chosen.
“Jermaine Sellers” was one of the contestants hoping to prove himself to the judges. He sang Michael Jackson’s “Change.” “Siobon Magnus,” 19, also tried very hard and sang terrific. Crystal Bowersox was also extremely well. She sang “If It Makes You Happy” while playing the music as well. “Alex Lambert” sang “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz as as did a few others. “Thaddeus Johnson” sang “Man in The Mirror” and did an awesome job! “Charity Vance,” 17 sang very beautifully, as did “Tasha Layton.” “Mary Powers” did her rendition of “Hot Then You’re Cold.”
”Lloyd Thomas,” a dock worker, said that he stayed focused by thinking of his wife and kids back home, with tears in his eyes. He also sang “Man in the Mirror.” The policeman who auditioned in Atlanta was also feeling the heat. Shelby was awesome as she sang ” More Than A Feeling.” “Aaron Kelley” forgot his words while auditioning, which had to be upsetting. “Ashley Rodriguez” sang “Battlefield” and “Lee Dewayze” sang” You Found Me.”
“Janell Wheeler” sang Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and felt she blew it by doing the wrong song. Aaron feels he ruined his chances by forgetting the words, and many others felt they were not very good. There were a lot of tears, nail biting, and frayed nerves in those three rooms for the two hour wait. It is 11 pm at the legendary Kodak Theater, and the judges have heard 181 voices, and cut it down to the remaining 71.
The judges stepped into room one. “Ellen DeGeneres” told them all how hard it was, that they were all good singers but that it was about more than that.Room two came next, and Simon was the one who announced the results to this room. You had to wonder if this was an omen. He told them all that they were very good, but sadly, they did not make it. Everyone in room three is still waiting for their results. Randy delivered their fate, along with Kara. They were in! The celebration for rooms one and three did not last long. There was one more judgment to be made. Each contestant now has to walk on the stage in the Kodak Theater, as the judges break it down to 12 girls and 12 guys.
At 7am the next morning, the contestants all prepared for their walk down the isle onto the stage for their fate. Today’s results could change their lives forever. To get this far was a dream come true, but for many, those dreams are over. The contestants waited in a holding room, and one by one came out onto the stage to get their results. “Michael Lynch,” 26 went first, emotional, as his wife has given birth to their first child, Layla Rose. “Big Mike” has consistently performed well for Hollywood week. He made it through unanimously. In celebration, he picked Ellen up, and she said,”My back, put me down.” so he did. Let’s hope her back isn’t out again.
“Didi Benami” came next, you may remember her as the one whose best friend had died, and Didi is doing this in honor of her. Simon told her that she was good at times and bad at times, but unfortunately there were only 12 spaces. Every one of the judges voted to make her the first girl through to the top 24! “Kaitlin Everly” same next. Her parents are going through a divorce, and she is taking her dad’s leaving pretty hard. She is determined to go on and have a good life regardless of what happened with her parents. She made it!
“Shelby Dressel” was the next one out. Randy told her that she had high points and low points this week, and that the decision of who to pick was incredibly hard, but she did not make it through. Randy and Simon advised her to come back. After she walked out, Simon said “That was the wrong decision.” That said, she should definitely come back to try again next season.
“Casey James” seemed to impress Kara with every song he sung. He is from a town called “Cool” in Texas. Kara told him that she felt it was cool that he was going through. “Aaron Kelly” , a high school student only 16 years old came next. He made it through as well. “Lee Dewayze” made it through just barely. Kara told him that they had not agreed until five minutes ago to let him go on.
“Todrick Hall”, who starred with “Fantasia” in “The Color Purple” on Broadway, made it through as well. “Jessica Furney” was rejected in season 8, but came back with a determination to make it this time. Randy broke the news to her, that she did not make it. She told them she could do this, they had no idea. She hated to be begging, and she told them so, but she proceeded to beg. Simon told her that they cannot change their minds, and she argued her case, but Randy and Ellen told her that it was not the end of the road for her. Ellen explained to her that she is only 21. It may seem like the end of the world right now, but it’s not, this is just one,”No” but she will be okay, she will go on. A very profound statement, that we can all benefit from.
That is the first group who have made it through. The other 17 will be announced on tonight’s show. Don’t miss it! Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. Comments are appreciated!
