Mar 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) American Idol opened last night with the entire top twelve doing a mix-up song, with the guys doing, “Born to Be Wild” and the girls performing Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” The mix of the two songs went together awesomely to give a terrific performance. Jacob, Lauren and Casey wee called up. After the nation wide vote, Jacob was safe, and headed to the couch. Lauren battled a cold on performance night, but the judges and America loved her and she was also safe. Casey was in the same boat as Jacob and Lauren after the nationwide vote, and was safe on the couch as well.

Ryan Seacrest asked Paul and Haley to come up onstage next. Haley explained that the reason the judges may have been confused by her varied performances is that she likes all kinds of music, and likes to try them all. Paul was in a “loose mood” during the performance show one Wednesday. Haley was disappointed to find that she is in the bottom three, and Paul is safe.

Lee Dewyze, the leading American Idol took the stage to perform his newest hit, “Beautiful Like You,” much the the thrill of the audience. His advice to the contestants was to just remember why they are doing this in the first place…because no matter when they leave, they will still love music and keep doing it. The Scotty, Pia, and James were called out by Ryan.

Scotty sang “Can I Trust You With My Heart” on performance night, and after America voted, Scotty is safe. Pia was loved by the judges on the previous night as did the audience, and America, she is safe as well. James, who Steven Tyler has promised to join onstage if he makes it to the finals, was safe as well.

Stefano and Naima joined hands onstage as they waited for their results. Stefano says he will make more eye contact with the audience if he stays in. Naima says she is beginning to have a passionate hate for the word “pitchy” but by the time this is done, she will be in perfect harmony. Naima is in the bottom three, and Stefano is safe.

Karen and Thia were next up. Steven loved it when Karen broke into her “ethnic what-it-isness” on performance night. Thia did a beautiful performance of “Colors of the Wind” on Wednesday, which Randy felt was boring. Thia was safe, and Karen was in the bottom three. The Black Eyed Peas gave a performance of “Just Can’t Get Enough” which they dedicated to the victims of Japan.

Haley, Naima, and Karen stood on the stage to hear their fate after the nationwide vote, Naima and Haley are safe, and Karen must sing for the judges to see if they will use this season’s “save” to keep her in the contest. She chose to sing “Hero” by Mariah Carey. Randy informed Karen that the vote was not unanimous, but the judges would not be using the save to keep her, so Karen is going home.
