American Idol takes on the Lone Star State

American Idol Jan 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Dallas auditions had guest judge Neil Patrick Harris trying to keep a straight face during Julie Kevelighan’s from Fort Worth Texas, audition this was the second time she has tried to make it to Hollywood and it was four nays for Julie. Lloyd a dockworker received great reviews and impressed judge Simon with his rendition of “Over Joy” by Stevie Wonder.

Kimberly Carver from Denton Texas sang an original song and the show down between Simon and Neil continued as they voted against each other many times throughout the show. With Neil Harris sending Kimberly through to Hollywood with the final yes.

Dexter Ward from Terrell Texas was convinced he was going to shine bright with his audition, but somewhere along the way that light went dim and it was a no go for Hollywood. Erica Rhodes 23 years old from Irving Texas had some experience when she starred in the children series Barney. With her whip in hand and mini skirt on she made an impression with her voice and proved little girls who sang on the Barney show do grow up.

Mountain Home Arkansas brought Dave Pittman who was diagnosed with turrets syndrome soothed the judges with his soul sounding voice. Dave said that his turret does not bother him while he is singing and cannot explain why. Hollywood is just a plane ticket away for Dave as he was given a gold ticket.

Joe Jonas was the guest judge for part two of the auditions, which started off to a good start with Todrick Hall who performed with Fantasia in the color purple. With day two bringing in more Idol hopefuls things were slowing down when Vanessa Johnston hit a sour note and was told she would not be going anywhere but home. Things changed with the last contested Christian Spear who sang, “All I can do is cry” by Etta James was give n a thumbs up by all and was told she was incredibly talented.

In total 32 tickets were handed out to the Idol winning contestants. The first American Idol winner was Kelly Clarkson whom was from Texas.
