July 10, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The American Idol has lost its popularity in the ninth season, compared to that of the earlier seasons starting from 2002. This has affected the summer tour of the 10 finalists of the last season as it is reported that the tour has been shortened. Earlier, they were supposed to have tours till September 16 but now their tour will end on August 31.

However, despite decreasing popularity, the show has maintained the status of the most-watched show on U.S. television.

The tour has cut down eight dates from the original schedule and several dates of the show have been rescheduled.

In the finale, this year, Simon Cowell featured as the judge. But then also, the show became the lowest –rated American Idol this year since 2002 with only 24.2 million viewers, which was 9% less than 2009.

Every season, the top 10 contestants go on a traditional tour during summer and most of them sign record deals and start scoring their own music.

This year, only the winner Lee DeWyze and the runner-up Crystal Bowersox have managed to sign record deals until now. Lee released his first single, ‘Beautiful Day’ after winning.

The decision of cancellation of the tour dates may be due to the lack of popularity of the contestants this year.

Live Nation is releasing the revised schedule of the tour.

On 16th September, the tour was supposed to conclude in Portland, ME. The tour has been cancelled in the cities like Winnipeg, Omaha, Kansas City, Manitoba, Buffalo, Toronto and Cleveland.

The audience can request refund of the tickets or they will be honored for the new schedule tour dates.
