Victoria Beckham Jan 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Literally thousands showed up for the American Idol tryouts. The first contestant told everyone that she had mastered the American Idol game, but her performance said something totally different. The fourth judge during these tryouts was Victoria Beckham otherwise known as “Posh Spice.” The next contestant, Mattie Curtis a sixteen year old from Virginia, has an older brother with Downs Syndrome. After he was born, her parents then adopted four other Downs Syndrome babies. Mattie said ,”These boys see the world in color, everyone should see the world this way.” When she sang, she sounded awesome! Simon’s first words “Very good, you’ve got a little soul in that voice.” All of the judges loved her. The third contestant in Boston was not so good. The next ones to make it through were all girls, and they were all great.

Amadeo Doricco then came out and blew them all away! He was terrific, with a very strong voice. Simon called Amadeo “my favorite try-out so far” and he got four yeses! His huge Italian family was there to celebrate with him. Then came Derek, who sang “Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word” by Elton John. He did not do so well, and Simon told him so, in a way that only Simon could. Mary came along and had much the same response. Luke Shaffer, however came along and was brilliant, as was Benjamin Bright.

Andrew Finland came then, in a very gripey mood, because of having to wait so long to audition. He had a terrible attitude, but everyone except Simon said no. Simon told them he would have said yes. Kara absolutely could not stand him, and they had a few words. Victoria said that he was even more arrogant than Simon. Tyler came along, and sang “Let’s Get It On” and got a “yes” from them all. Day two in Boston, and so far no golden tickets. Mike Davis sang “Yesterday” by “The Beetles.” Simon said yes, Randy said no, and the girls voted him through!

Katie Stevens, 16 years old, shared how close she is to her Portuguese speaking grandmother, who has Alzheimer’s. She wants her grandmother to get to see her live her dream. This girl was UNBELIEVABLE!! I simply do not know any other way to put it. She got her Golden Ticket, which was no surprise. She called her grandmother, and even “Ryan Seacrest” had tears. Joshua Blayloc was also a great singer, as he sang “Broken Road.” He made it through to Hollywood as well, after a lesson in assertiveness from all four judges.

Justin Williams, was diagnosed with cancer 7 years ago, when he was twenty. He is now cancer free. He has the look and the voice to be really good in this competition, and all four judges loved him. They all gave him a “yes.” Bosa, whose parents are both from Nigeria, said he wanted to judges to see the soul that he has to offer. Simon gave him a “no”, but the other three cautiously let him go through. His family was extremely excited. Leah Laurenti grew up in a very strict household, where secular music was not allowed, but she said that she always felt music inside of her. I can relate to her upbringing, and her love of music. She was incredible, and the judges let her finish a verse and the chorus before stopping her. They told her that she was one of the best that they had seen. She made it through! She called her parents and asked if they were proud of her, and their response? “Of course we are!” There is going to be some awesome talent with beautiful stories to go with it in this season’s “American Idol.” I cannot wait!
