American Idol Rocks to Elvis

Adam Lambert is mentoring the idol contestants this week as they perform Elvis songs. Adam took second place last season with Kris Allen winning the idol title, although Mr. Lambert is the first American Idol past contestant to come back to mentor other idol hopefuls. Will his past idol experience help these contestants’ shine and standout in their performance?
Crystal Bowersox stood out with her performance of “Saved” and was a big hit with the judges. Andrew Garcia was told by Lambert to bring more life to the song of “Hound dog” and actually made the song rather boring bringing no real energy to the performance. Tim Urban had his best performance to date with the love song “Can’t help falling in love”. With his acoustic guitar and a simple rearrangement of the melody earned him great praise from the judges with Simon Cowell telling him “ You we nt from zero to hero in two weeks”.
“A little less conversation” had the audience dancing in the isles when Lee DeWyze was performing onstage to the Elvis hit. Randy Jackson told Lee he was in the zone and Ellen thought he made the song current. Sixteen-year-old Aaron Kelly had Adam Lambert saying that he believed Idol underestimated Aaron’s voice. Taking on “Blue Suede Shoes” allowed Aaron to demonstrate his vocal abilities, but left the judges with mixed reviews on his performance. Idol judge Kara DioGuardi enjoyed his performance whereas Randy and Ellen thought he could have done better.
Siobhan Magnus, who has already been compared to Lambert in her performances, said it was a honor to be guided on her vocal and arrangement of “Suspicious Minds” from Adam. The judges were not impressed with her vocals and even said they were somewhat confused on who she is as a performer. Randy Jackson thought that her different vocal ranges made her two separate people and really didn’t care for the first lower vocal range person. Siobhan disagreed with what the judges were saying about not knowing whom she was when she has many different sides and doesn’t want to be one label. Michael Lynch redeemed himself this week after nearly exiting from Idol last week. His smooth vocals and soul sound made “In the ghetto” a hit. Katie Stephens once again gave a solid performance and showed her growth and confidence. Adam advised Casey to mix the arrangement up a bit in the middle to make the song stand out more. While his vocals were great the song fell short and as Simon put it “Forgettable”.
While each Idol contestant brought their own arrangement to an Elvis song, which contestants stood out enough to continue on and which two will be sent home? Tomorrow night two idol hopefuls will be sent home and Adam Lambert will perform live on the idol stage.
