Jan 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) As American Idol began last night, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Ryan went to New Orleans, Louisiana to begin the tryouts there. Their first contestant was a piano teacher named Jordan, who is twenty one years old. He sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in a bluesy soulful way, which he soon jazzed up with his finger snapping along to the beat. The judges seemed to really get into the music, especially Steven. Jennifer stopped him and said she had goose pimples all over. Randy stated, “We should not even comment, just go “yes” or “no” one, two, three, “YES!” everyone screamed in unison.

Sarah Sellers was up after several really bad acts were shown. She sang “To Make You Feel My Love.” Her voice was beautiful, and she was given three “yes” votes. Then Jovanny won the hearts of the judges, before taking his shirt off, alongside Randy and Steven…. as Jennifer watched in mock horror, and lots of laughter. He was sent on through as well.

The next contestant was the niece of Randy Jackson’s high school football coach. She brought along a few pictures of Randy in school to break the ice, and then sang “I’ll Stand By You.” Her voice was amazing from the beginning. There were a few shaky moments, but overall a nice sound. Jennifer said she was awesome, and they all liked her. She is on to Hollywood.

Brett came next, with a head full of red “Carrottop” like hair, and a high voice, and spoke of how he had been made fun of for a long time in life. He says he has finally found himself, and he is here to show that he has got what it takes. He began to sing “Bohemian Rhapsody” it was terrific. Jennifer once again had goose pimples. Randy said it was hot, and Steven was amazed. He is also through to Hollywood.

Up next was a man who said that he had a great, strong voice, a good sense of humor, and a wonderful personality, and feels that he will be the next ‘American Idol’. He sang ‘Bad Romance’ by Lady Gaga, although it was not clear why. The judges fell apart laughing, and Jennifer, unlike last night, had no problem saying “no” along with the rest of the judges. A long line of bad singers followed, including a very charismatic rapper….who was interrupted by the horn of a passing ship, bellowing it’s protest.

Fifteen year old Jacee sang “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay”, and he was terrific! The voice which came out of this chubby teen’s mouth was unbelievable. The judges let him go through an entire verse and chorus, before telling him how great he was. Steven called it a work of art, a thing of beauty. Jennifer voted “yes” first, and the other two voiced the same sentiment. Jacee is off to Hollywood.

There was one last Southern Belle hoping to go to Hollywood. Paris Tassin got pregnant when she was eighteen, and although she wasn’t ready, and was too young, when the doctors advised her to have an abortion, because her baby had a few problems, she refused. He baby girl, Kierra is now three years old, and aside from needing hearing aides, is fine. She stated that she will be singing for her daughter. She sang “Temporary Home” by Carrie Underwood. She brought tears to Jennifer’s eyes. They all gave her a yes, she is moving on to Hollywood, bringing the New Orleans auditions to an emotional close.
