American Idol: Last 9 Perform : Tim, Lee, and Crystal Rock The Show

Last week on Idol, the judges used the only save of the season to rescue Michael “Big Mike” Lynch. There will be no more saves, no second chances, this is it. On Wednesday, two of the nine will go home. Last night, each one of them performed in front of Kara, Simon, Randy and Ellen in hopes of being one of the seven survivors next week. I am writing this live, On Tuesday night, to be posted tomorrow, on Wednesday, so as of this moment, not even I know how they did. I am personally hoping Andrew goes home, but let’s see how he performs, and how America votes tonight after the show.

Adam Lambert was back for “Elvis Week.” He gave the artists advice, and I must admit, I laughed out loud when I saw him trying to advise Crystal. Man, please, that girl can rock just fine! I loved Adam when he was on Idol, but since then I haven’t seen him sing anything but “What Do You Want From Me?” Well, a new song would be nice! Sure enough, when Ryan asked him what he would sing if he were performing as a contestant tonight, and his answer? He starting singing, “What Do You Want From Me” Ugggg!! Okay, here is a quote that is so funny I had to repost it here. In a comment from an Idol watcher it was stated, “OOOOOOF. It’s bad enough Adam Lambert, who can stand to use his own mentoring, is guiding these kids on how to sing. Throw in Elvis and you’ve got a squealing trainwreck with eyeliner.”

Crystal came first, and this girl can rock! She sang “I’m Saved” and folks, her soul was showing. Playing the electric guitar, she wowed the judges. Randy was yelling her praises, Kara said it was another solid performance for Crystal, and Simon loved it that she did not choose an obvious song, and did not fall into the karaoke trap. “Congratulations once again.” he added. I skipped telling you about Ellen, because Ellen said that she was so tired of telling Crystal how great she was, that she was gonna skip it, and turned to the audience to ask if anyone had a birthday. Everyone laughed, and then she let Crystal know that she thought she was terrific.

Okay, Andrew is next. Let’s see if he impresses enough to change my mind about who I want to leave…Well, he sang “Hound Dog” in a slow jazzy performance. I am trying to be nice, so I will wait for the judge’s opinions and give them to you. Randy did not like it at all, and said t was “Not good karaoke.” Ellen liked how he had changed it and thought Andrew pulled it off, but wished she had seen more swagger with it. Kara said, “It’s Elvis, you have to own it, I felt the mic was your crutch instead of you owning it.” Simon agreed, he felt it was lazy and predictable. I couldn’t have said it better.

Tim is coming up next, with “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You.” Adam suggested to him that he end the song in a high falsetto. I hope it works for him. He sounds really good as he begins. I really like Tim, not because he is such a great singer, but because of how much he has improved from the beginning to now. At first, I thought he was so bad that it embarrassed me when I heard him, but right now, he sounds terrific! Just wow. Randy said that it may surprise Tim, but he actually liked it. Ellen compared him to tequila, at first she did not know if she would like hm or not, but after enough shots, she loved him. Kara’s favorite Tim performance ever, she loved it. Simon said “You have managed to go from zero to hero in two weeks. You have taken advice really well. Congratulations!” And he did not go higher in the end as suggested by Adam, of which I was glad.

Lee is next, and Adam is suggesting that he be more bluesy with ” A Little Less Conversation.” Wow, he is off to a great start, singing with the acoustic guitar. Just as good when the music kicks in…I am loving it. Randy said “Dude you are definitely in the zone, very good dude.” Ellen said that Lee made is so current and it sounded like a brand new song. Kara said,” I have never seen you really go for it vocally like that, it was fire.” Simon said it was on the money, full stop. Lee said that talking to Adam helped alot, and that everyone had been telling him to smile more, so he did.

And now Aaron is up. Adam said that the problem with Aaron is that he does not quite yet believe in himself. He performed “Blue Swede Shoes” and did quite well. I am thrilled at watching how well almost all of these singers improve through out the season. Aaron and Lee are much much better since they gained a bit of confidence, and Tim blew my mind with his improvements! And Aaron is done. Randy liked it, but liked the half time beat better. Ellen thought it was a big song to take on and although he didn’t get all the way there, he did a great job. Kara loved it that he was out of his comfort zone. She liked it. Simon felt it was like someone at a high school doing an Elvis song. He felt Aaron failed to make it original and he wasn’t crazy about it. Well, pooie Simon, I thought it was great!

And here comes Siobhan! This girl is terrific as well. She said Elvis inspires her because he came from almost nothing, and made his dreams come true. When she was practicing with Adam, he advised her to speed the song up a bit, and he was right. Let’s see if she took his advice with ” Suspicious Minds.” This girl really has a set of pipes. She did the song both ways, her slower version as well as parts which were sped up as Adam suggested. Randy said she took a couple of risks, but he liked it when she slowed it down. “That girl can sing right there!” he added. Ellen liked it after she slowed it down as well. Kara said that it is like Siobhan has two voices, one like in the beginning and two in the crazy screaming voice and it was getting confusing to her. Simon felt the first part of the song was terrible, and it sounded erratic and screechy. “This was not one of your best performances.” She pointed out that she has always taken pride in the fact that she is her own person, and does not have a label. She added, “If I can’t label myself I don’t see where it is important for me to even be labeled.”

Michael Lynch is up next. After almost going home last week, he chose t listen to Siobhan’s advice and sing “In The Ghetto” Adam thinks that he deserves to make it to the end, because he is a terrific singer. And so far, he is right. “Big Mike” is doing a terrific job. Randy said the vocals were hot. Ellen said she is glad they saved him. Kara said it was a beautiful song and he did it well. Simon explained that they are running out of time, and can’t say much, but that it was a “million billion times better than last week.” THAT was the Mike that I liked at the beginning of the show! He had gotten slack lately, and I was beginning to think he should go home, but that performance was awesome!

Katie came next and she did a terrific job as well. “Nice vocals, that was entertaining!” Randy Said. Ellen said it was a very horny song. “A lotta horns in it!” she explained. (There were trumpets backing her up.) Kara thought she did terrific, but Simon didn’t like it.

And finally came Casey. He did “Laudy Miss Claudy” and Adam told him to go a little higher, or do a drop out give it more shape. It was the perfect song for his voice. Randy said it was another solid performance. Ellen agreed. It wasn’t as exciting as she hoped, but it was good. Kara said it fell short of her expectations. Simon called it a wasted opportunity for a song that was completely forgettable.

Wow, this is a hard one. So many of them are so great I have no idea who should go. Maybe Andrew, but past that I am lost. Adam Lambert is performing on Wednesday night, and I’d place bets he sings, ” What Do You Want From Me?” Tune in and see!
