amera June 22, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): It’s good news for the aspiring young candidates of ‘American Idol’! The reality TV talent competition is lowering its minimum age limit to 15 years, according to a representative for the series.

The executive producer of the show said, “A large number of young and talented aspirants are trying to make a good singing career before they turn 16. We just want to tap those talents by lowering the age limit.”

However, the maximum age limit to participate in the ‘American Idol’ remains the same at 28. The reality series of Fox had an age limit from 16 to 28 years during the first nine seasons. It is committed to launch the American version of The X Factor in 2011.

Apart from this change in age limit, the show will also announce the name of a new judge as well as a music director. Simon Cowell is also being replaced by the new judge as the ninth season was his last.

On July 17, the auditions for the next season of ‘American Idol’ will start in Nashville, Tennessee. The upcoming season will see many changes in the format of this long-running reality show.

Currently, the two leading teen artists in the industry are Justin Bieber and Greyson Michael Chance. Both of them became popular before they turned 16. In fact, Bieber has more than three million followers on Twitter and had signed with Island Records in 2008.

And the 12 year old YouTube sensation Chance signed his first recording contract last month.

These two popular artists have probably motivated the ‘American Idol’ makers to lower the age limit for the competition
