American Female, Who Underwent Avoidable Mastectomy, To Attain $198,000 As Part Of A Resolution
August 11th, 2010 - 4:50 pm ICT by Sampurn WireWashington, August 11, 2010 (Just Flashed): A female named Ana Jimenez-Salgado had submitted herself to a double mastectomy. Nevertheless, to her dismay, she subsequently understood that she was not plagued by breast cancer. Ana is now geared up to obtain $198,000 as part of a resolution. This resolution was endorsed on Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors of the Los Angeles County
What had happened was that the breasts of Ana were surgically extricated at theos Angeles County-USC Medical Center. The extrication of her breasts was done subsequent to the ascertainment of two external pathologists that her cells procured from a biopsy in August 2007 were cancerous.
Ana subsequently experienced reconstructive surgical treatment. The aforementioned infirmary’s pathologists assessed the tissue acquired during that process. They startlingly ascertained that Ana was not a sufferer of breast cancer. Rather, the papers of the county mention that she was afflicted by a benign circumstance with characteristics, which are very analogous to cancerous cells.
Ana was appalled obviously. She resolved to initiate a court case that accused the infirmary of medical mismanagement. Her lawsuit asserted that the infirmary executed carelessness by depending on the analysis of the external pathologists. Ana also remonstrated, via the lawsuit, that the breast rebuilding surgery was neglectfully conducted.
The county conceded that it failed to assess the biopsy samples, which led to the avoidable mastectomy.
The infirmary has now modified its guidelines to make certain that its internal pathologists appraise biopsy samples procured from external services. The infirmary has also discontinued transporting patients to external facilities for MRI-directed biopsies.
The county’s supervisors also consented to shell out $24,756 of Ana’s medical bills not covered by Medi-Cal. Medi-Cal happens to be the state’s adaptation of the federal Medicaid agenda.
