Washington, August 12, 2010 (Just Flashed): The Pentagon is intending to vend in excess of 200 Patriot missiles to the territorially diminutive Kuwait. These missiles, in all, are nearly of the value of a whopping $900 million. The intention of the Pentagon to supply these missiles to Kuwait is a component of the Pentagon’s continuing endeavor to increasingly construct anti-missile systems in the Persian Gulf.

Kuwait, it needs to be kept in mind, has been one of the steadiest and trustworthy allies of America in the Persian Gulf. The political, economic and military alliance between Kuwait and America was boosted even further subsequent to the liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi military occupation by America in the early 90s. The American and British headship of the then global endeavor to liberate Kuwait, endorsed by the United Nations, solidified the bond between Kuwait and the West and between Kuwait and America.

The proposal to erect anti-missile systems in the Persian Gulf is being perceived by geopolitical analysts as a tactic by America to protect friendly nations in the Gulf from possible Iranian military attacks. This proposal is also being interpreted as an indication by America that any Iranian belligerence against the American allies in the Persian Gulf will generate an effective military response from America and its allies. Iran, after the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979, has witnessed a steady deterioration of its relationship with America. America and Iran have gazed at each other hostilely since 1979 on account of an assortment of issues. The latest rationale behind the American opposition to Iran is the Iranian nuclear program, which Washington deems is being furtively executed to enable Iran to acquire the capacity to produce nuclear bombs that could be utilized by Iran against American friends in the region such as Israel, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) enunciated on Wednesday that it had alerted the American Congress of the planned sale. It is possible that the Congress could generate protestations but it is not likely to do so.

American bureaucrats have divulged that the Patriot batteries also have been positioned in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, all of which have a profound alliance with America. Kuwait happens to be a nation in the Persian Gulf that has long been considered as a nation that already possesses some Patriot missiles.
