December 3rd, 2009 - 9:48 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Panaji, Dec 3 (IANS) Taiwanese director Leon Dai, who won the Golden Peacock award at the 40th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), said he was in India to complete his father’s karma.
After receiving the top award for his film “I Can’t Live Without You”, an emotional Dai, speaking in Taiwanese, said that several decades ago his father had left China and had settled in then Calcutta for over 12 years, before finally moving to Taiwan.
“When I was a child, I used to hear about India from the stories my father used to tell about this beautiful land. But I could never come to India before this visit,” Dai said.
“My father started his ‘karma’ several years ago in India. I am glad I could come back here to complete it,” the award winner said. Dai said that he felt a special connection with India and added that he would come back to India, Goa specifically, to shoot a film here.
“I am thinking of coming back to India… Goa, to write and make movies. I hope it would make another karma,” he said.
Dai’s film is set in Taiwan and is based on real-life characters and incidents. The story revolves around the life of a poor man, whose tireless pursuit to ensure quality education and living for his daughter lands him in a situation where the two are forcefully separated by the state on account of the father’s impoverished background.
