Alma Awards 2009: Teens Selena Gomez And David Archuleta Rule The Night

On Friday night, it was a time to celebrate the achievements of all those people who have made outstanding contribution in the field of in entertainment, among the Latinos. The Alma Awards 2009 was held on Thursday night, September 17, at the Royce Auditorium in Los Angles. This year the show was hosted by the gorgeous Eva Longoria Parker and George Lopez. The show was aired live on September 18 from 8 p.m. onwards on the ABC networks.
It was a thoroughly glamorous affair, as prominent names in the field of entertainment walked down the red carpet and in to the venue, one after the other, much to the excitement for the viewers. This year’s ALMA boasted of performances by such big names as Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Sean Kingston, David Archuleta and Pitbull. Celebrities like Adam Rodriguez, Benjamin Bratt, Dania Ramirez and Michelle Rodriguez came up to the stage as presenters to give awards the awards. With such stellar performances, it was surely a night to remember for the viewers, in quite sometime to come in the recent days.
The evening saw immensely popular television actress Selena Gomez of the Disney Franchise “Wizards Of Waverly Place” receive the honors for the Best Actress in television for essaying the character of the teenage wizard Alex Russo. David Archuleta walked away from the event with the coveted Male Music Rising star. One of the most anticipated moment of the night was when the actress Salma Hayek received the Anthony Quinn Award for Industry Excellenace, due to her outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry, over the years. Oscar de la Hoya was awarded with the Special Achievement in Sports Television.

David Archuleta’s performance was nothing short of show-stopping. No dancers; no lip syncing. Just an emotional, pitch perfect rendition with one young man and his guitarist. But that young man caressed every single word, and so did we.

David Archuleta did indeed rule the night. A stunningly beautiful performance, as the audience sat in silent wonder to capture each word. David brought a class to the airwaves seldom, if ever, seen today. Bravo David for bringing us another purely David performance.

David is an incredible talent and the most beautiful person in the music industry (inside and out!). For real, David is the only one who didn’t need half-naked dancers and special effects to mask his singing. That was simple, pure, real, and completely mesmerizing. I LUV YOU DAVID!

I am not Latino and have never watched the Alma Awards until now. I must say there were many famous stars who have contributed much to society. But I also would have to say that David Archuleta, though just 18 yrs. old, is absolutely AMAZING! I was just disappointed that I did not get to see Mr. Archuleta receiving his Rising Male Star award! I know he received it because I’ve seen pictures, but WHEN??? You all should be extremely proud of this young man! WOW!

You right David and Selena GREAT!!, Eva and George very well, Sean K Good jod, Pitbull, great clothes to be a raper congrats for break the sterotype, Shakira and Nelly IDK really, they are stars already they can do better.

David Archuleta’s performance at the ALMAs was breathtaking!!! How many young artists today could perform with just a guitar player? His voice is magnificent!!!!!!

I do not speak a work of spanish but David Archuleta’s body language and emotional vocals touched my heart anyway! I too noticed that the audience listened to every single word he sang! I am tickled that he was introduced to a lot of hollywood that night! I also felt proud for him because he sang with only a guitar to back him up - no half naked dancers or orchestra is needed for this amazingly talented young man! He “stands alone”! I wait with baited breath to see where he stands a year from now. I adore you David!!!!!
