April 27, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Alka Yagnik, who has been in the music industry for about three decades, recently spoke about doing a Lori (lullaby) album. She reveals that she found the idea surprising and appealing because it is new. Alka believes lullabies have a sweet and lilting nature. The concept of lullabies is dying out so she is trying to revive it with her album. Singing a Lori helps one to build a bond with one’s child. The album has soft and peaceful songs with universal appeal. Lories create a peaceful atmosphere, she states.
Speaking about her favorite lullabies, she reveals that her mother used to sing a lot of lullabies to her like “Chandan ka palna, Resham ki doree’, “Aaja re aa nindiya,’ and “So jaa rajkumaari’, and she used to sing to sing the same to her daughter Sayesha.
According to Alka, every mother should sing lullabies to her baby. She understands that today women have difficult lives due to the demands of their careers. Even she hasn’t spent as much as time as she would have liked with her daughter but fortunately her parents were there for her and took care of her in Alka’s absence.
Meanwhile, the singer expresses that she would like to experiment with her voice and sing something different now. She is grateful for how successful she has been and has noticed over the years that contemporary songs don’t have an everlasting melody. The focus is more on rhythm patterns and techno sounds and less on melody which was not the case earlier.
