Alicia Keys continues her efforts for AIDS awareness
December 2nd, 2011 - 10:45 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Dec 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Alicia Keys is continuing her efforts at helping create awareness to the deadly HIV/AIDS disease. The condition is blamed for the death of millions of people worldwide each year.
The Grammy-winning singer is the ambassador of the Keep A Child Alive Foundation which seeks to help children affected by the disease. As part of the World AIDS Awareness Day which was marked on the 1st of December, Keys and Bono appeared on ABC’s flagship program Good Morning America.
Keys was in Africa where she assessed firsthand the impact of HIV/AIDS on the population. She said that, “To be the voice of the people. To represent real people and real life, real struggles, real pains, real joys, real things that are really there, you know…I never wanted to be caught up in all the fantasies and the frivolity,” she said. “You know, just, I never cared about that.”
Keep A Child Alive is on the forefront of the fight against HIV/AIDS. The organization reasons that $1 a day is enough to cater for the medication of a child with HIV/AID. Nearly all public money received by the organization is geared towards providing medication for children affected by HIV/AIDS.
Despite the fact that AIDS has been around for more than a quarter of a century, scientists are still struggling to come up with a cure.
