Nov 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It has been years since people have last heard the songs. While those who are real classic buffs and in a way an extinct species of music lovers, might occasionally play it on the special occasion of Thanksgiving Day. Despite that, whenever they hear the song “Alice’s Restaurant”, they once again overflow with admiration and regards for the incredible creator of the song, Arlo Guthrie.
Arlo Guthrie probably knows that he and his debut song “Alice’s Restaurant” are rather indispensable. Although the song was released to create a rave in 1967, it still remains to be one of his signature numbers that left many people breathless with its keen social satire and light humor, which was typical of that decade. And therefore, like many other songs of the 60s, even “Alice’s Restaurant” has successfully immortalized itself as one of the top classics. Yesterday, Arlo Guthrie decided to revive his old memories and reestablish the song in the modern society, on the perfect occasion of Thanks Giving Day. He once again mesmerized the several audiences with his sing, at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on the streets of New York. He alone gathered a whopping 3.5 million spectators, who were either part of the parade or gathered at the venue just to hear Arlo Guthrie sing the cult number. The other song that he performed was “The Motorcycle Song”.
Although the song is one of the longest ever created, it kept the audiences glued to the singer yesterday. No wonder, the pricking lyrics and the intricate social sarcasm probably fits suitably four decades later too. Where the contemporary artists have a different way to portray the darker sides of the society, the classic artists have always done it in a more sensible and sophisticated way, with in-depth lyrics and effective sounds. “Alice’s Restaurant” once again proved to a perfect example of the golden genre of music on the occasion of Thanks Giving.
