Former Charlie’s Angels star Farrah Fawcett has lost her three year battle with cancer and died.

Fawcett’s death was confirmed by Paul Bloch, one of her representatives at Rogers and Cowan, an entertainment public relations firm.

Bloch said Ryan O’Neal, Fawcett’s romantic partner since the mid-1980s, and her friend Alana Stewart, were with her at Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California, when she died.

The veteran Hollywood actress attracted a legion of followers and last month some of the biggest names in Hollywood attended the world premier of Farrah’s Story, a video diary documentary chronicling the aging stars battle with cancer.

Fawcett was first diagnosed with anal cancer in September 2006 and earlier this year it was announced the cancer had spread to her liver.

O’Neal recently told People magazine that the former sex symbol was declining. “The treatment has pretty much ended” he said.

In a written statement O’Neal said, “although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world”.

Earlier this week it was revealed Fawcett, 62, had agreed to marry 68-year-old O’Neal. The two have a son together but have never married.
