Al Pacino is involved in tax trouble
March 8th, 2011 - 8:32 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLos Angeles, Mar 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Al Pacino is said to be in tax default of more than $180,000. The veteran Hollywood star claims that the problem is not from his part.
Internal Revenue Service officials in the United States have filed a tax lien against the star claiming that he failed to pay $169,143 in taxes two years ago and also defaulted on the payment of $19,140 in taxes in 2009. The IRS is seeking $188,283 in total from the ‘Godfather’ star.
Al Pacino’s rep has agreed to the claims by the IRS. The excuse however for the non-payment is that it was primarily the fault of the former celebrity financial adviser, Kenneth Starr. Starr is currently serving prison time for embezzling the funds of his clients. He was the financial adviser of Pacino for all those years and failed to file the returns.
Pacino though would be paying the amount to the IRS because his rep to the celebrity website, TMZ.com that they are working with the IRS for the smooth settlement of the issue.
Tax evasion is a very serious issue in the laws of the United States. Wesley Snipes is currently in the legal battle of his life to avoid going to jail for failing to file his tax returns.
