Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 13 (IANS) After waiting for four decades, 74-year-old playback singer K.P. Udayabhanu has got another chance to sing a Malayalam film song.
Asked why he had to wait for so long, pat came the reply from the singer known for his unassuming nature: “It is simple, none called me to sing.”

“The last time I sang in a Malayalam film was way back in 1969 for ‘Tharavattu Amma’ and it was a duet with B. Vasantha. Till then I had sung around 200 film songs,” Udayabhanu, who will record the song Wednesday, told IANS.

“I don’t know the name of the film that I am singing for tomorrow. The music director of the film Tej Merwin asked me to sing and I agreed. I will find out more details tomorrow when I go for the recording,” added Udayabhanu.

He worked for 38 years with the All India Radio and he also was a gifted composer. He sang for movies like “Kaduthukaran”, “Ezhu Rathrikal”, “Ramanan”, “Hamsageetham”, and “Veluthampi Dalava”.

Talking about his comeback to movies, he said: “It is okay and what am I to say, it is for the others to say.”

His son Rajeev Udayabhanu said: “Isn’t it nice that my father is making a comeback after so many years.”
