shanMar 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Canadian actress Shannon Tweed created quite a buzz in the season premiere of the reality show featuring her and her family “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” which was aired on A&E network last night. The first episode of the fifth season of the reality series was successful in generating widespread interest among all the viewers as it featured the actress reeling under the onslaught of a health scare.

The premiere episode managed to grab immense attention as it highlighted that the 53 year old actress had a recent tryst with breast cancer. Although many critics contended that the health scare might just be an attempt to boost the ratings of the show, Shannon Tweed as well as her life partner Gene Simmons have emphasized that the breast cancer scare was something that the actress actually had to experience and it was just not an attention grabbing act by the couple.

Meanwhile, as the fifth season premiere episode of the reality show progressed, it came to light that Shannon Tweed was on a shopping trip with her sister Tracy when she suddenly discovered a lump in one of her breasts while she was trying a dress. This propelled the actress to have a medical check up with Dr. Kristi Funk validating that there was indeed an unusual growth. The situation seemed to get all the more haywire as the Gene Simmons was away on tour with his band ‘Kiss’. The episode witnessed the anxiety of Shannon Tweed’s family especially her two children, Nick and Sophie as they try to come to terms with her illness.

The cancer scare for Shannon and her family I know only to well. I was so glad to hear that their out come was good. I wish that cancer families could concentrate on the treatment and getting well without all the other hassles of life. I think there should be more programs to help families hang on to what they worked for all their lives while they are going to treatment because it can all be gone in a matter of months when cancer blind sides a family. The cost of living stays the same but the family’s income changes. If anyone knows of any organizations that could help with finances please let us know it would greatly be appreaciated. I think that it’s sad that we need to fight for our lives as well as our homes.

    Thank you

Cathy, if you live in Jacksonville FL one of our local newscasters Donna Deegan has set up an organization to help with the day-to-day expenses while fighting breast cancer. You may have a great job and excellent insurance but deductibles and co-pays for treatment and medication eats away any person’s ability pay the light bill. Donna’s organization does just that and qualification is NOT based on income or insurance but NEED. Everyone needs to pay the car insurance, braces for the kids and other important daily expenses. If you don’t live in Jacksonville FL there may be similar organizations that do the same in your area. Talk to your doctors and others involved in helping people and families beat breast and other cancers about financial help. My Mom successfully fought stage 1 breast cancer and has been cancer free 4 years. God Bless you and your loved ones supporting you!
