Adam Lambert’s Idol dreams go out of tuneMay 22nd, 2009 - 1:28 am ICT by GD
The two hour season finale of the latest season of America’s most popular talent contest saw a surprise ending. The Wednesday night show led to the crescendo of anxious anticipation and it was finally laid to rest when the results were announced at last.
Ever popular bad boy, Adam Lambert lost out on the last leg of the competition to the squeaky clean boy-next-door, Kris Allen. Described aptly by host Ryan Seacrest as the “underdog” and “the dark horse”, surprise winner Allen’s last lap victory at he eleventh hour could not have possibly been more dramatic if someone had actually scripted it. The “glam”, flamboyant, emphatically gay Lambert had apparently failed to carry his popular support all the way through to the end.
Though an Idol favorite for his rock-solid performances, formidable stage presence and obvious approval of the judges, common conjecture was that Lambert’s intense attitude statement in terms of his choice of performance, his look (not forgetting the black nail polish a la Ozzie Osbourne) and his flamboyantly gay activities (like having his website swamped with pictures of him kissing other men), may have not gone down particularly well with the conservative voters, especially in the southern states. as a result of which Lambert’s loss was “Mr. Clean” Arkansas boy, Allen’s gain.
All of his wild ways not withstanding, he had continued to be a hot favorite all through the show all the way up until Danny Gokey, another sentimental favorite had to take the bow. It is believed that the demographic that favored devoted-husband- to-dying-young-wife Gokey, found the next best thing in straight-as-a-surfboard and completely mainstream Kris Allen. Evidently, Lambert’s winning streak had finally run out of steam.
