July 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actress Rachel Weisz who is mainly known for her role in the “Mummy” movies and the multiple awards winning “The Constant Gardener” is all set to mesmerize her fans once again with her new period drama named “Agora”. The film deals with the tale of a pretty and intelligent astronomer named Hypatia set in fourth century Alexandria. She was a talented lady and discovered the fact that the sun is at the centre of our solar system much before Copernicus. Though a number of men including her students were bewitched by her ethereal beauty she had no intention to get married and play wife. Her only desire was to study and explore thaw fascinating world of astronomy.
She was not worried by the clash between the Christians and Pagans that rocked Alexandria. The producers have tried to make the film look authentic but kept the storyline contemporary so that the viewers can relate to it. One can understand the theme of extremism, religious intolerance etc. The film has been directed by Alejandro Amenabar and the shooting has taken place at Malta. The duration of the film is over two hours and it has a fair amount of CGI and special effects. There are lots of battle scenes and bloodshed.
Hypatia is shown as a magical teacher in the film who is adored by her students even though their religious beliefs are different. While she has acted in period films before the actress admitted shooting for Agora was an enjoyable experience for her. Apart from Agora the talented actress has two other films in her kitty awaiting release - ‘The Whistleblower’ and ‘Dream House’.
