Actress Patricia Neal Dies Aged 84

neal1Aug 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Oscar-winning actress Patricia Neal breathed her last on Sunday at her home in Edgartown, Massachusetts, on Martha’s Vineyard. The renowned actress, who was 84 at the time of her unfortunate demise, succumbed to lung cancer and was surrounded by her family during the last few moments of her life. Since the news of Patricia Neal’s demise has been reported, condolences have been pouring in from various quarters as her ardent fans are still coming to terms with the fact that the famed “Hud” star is no more.

Patricia Neal, who was known for her powerful screen presence as well as husky voice, starred in a number of highly-acclaimed films which included “The Subject Was Roses,” “A Face in the Crowd,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s, “The Fountainhead,” “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” to name a few. In the year 1963, the actress also bagged an Academy Award for her amazing portrayal of the character Alma Brown in the Martin Ritt directed classic, “Hud.” Although Patricia Neal was successful in making a mark for herself in her acting career, her personal life was marred with a number of tragedies. She had a torrid love affair with her “The Fountainhead” co-star Gary Cooper but in ended disastrously after his wife got to know about it.

Patricia Neal also had to face the tragedy of losing a child after she tied the knot with writer Roald Dahl when their daughter passed away due to measles while earlier on their infant son was left brain-damaged after an unfortunate accident. In 1965, about two years of winning an Oscar, Patricia Neal suffered three severe strokes but later recovered and also returned to acting.
