Actress Liz Taylor’s brush with death reports deniedAugust 1st, 2008 - 8:18 pm ICT by IANS
Los Angeles, Aug 1 (IANS) Legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor has denied media reports that she was close to death and was on life support. Her spokesperson, however, has confirmed that she was undergoing treatment at a hospital for an undisclosed condition. Liz Taylor’s Los Angeles-based publicist Dick Guttman said in a statement Thursday that the 76-year-old Hollywood icon was expected to return home soon from hospital.
Claiming that Taylor was “fine”, Guttman said: “The rumours which began in England about her health are dramatic, overstated and untrue. Her hospital visit was precautionary. She will be returning home shortly.”
“At present, she is surrounded by family, friends and fabulous jewels.”
He did not identify the hospital where Taylor was admitted.
National Enquirer tabloid had first reported that Taylor’s health was said to have deteriorated after she was diagnosed with pneumonia and congestive heart failure, prompting her to be placed on life support.
Taylor’s health has been under the media scanner in recent years. She underwent surgery in 1997 to have a brain tumour removed. In 2006 she appeared on US television to deny rumours that she had Alzheimer’s.
British born Taylor had come to the US during World War II and started out as a child star in movies and has enjoyed a long career and many marriages.
The movies she has acted in include “Cleopatra”, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”, and “The Taming of the Shrew”. Often paired in films opposite Richard Burton - her real life husband for some years - she has been popular in India.
