Actress June Havoc Dies Aged 97

juneLos Angeles, Mar 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The famous actress, June Havoc breathed her last on Sunday at her home in Stamford. The actress was 97 years old and died a natural death due to aging. June Havoc had started her career in the field of entertainment when she was only a 2 year old kid by doing burlesque dance performances. She had made many significant contributions to the stage both as an actress and as a director. She had acted in the lead role in more than 20 movies but her forte of expertise always remained in stage performances and she did many Broadway shows during her lifetime.

The sister of Gypsy Rose Lee who is remembered as a popular burlesque actress and stripper, she was introduced to the world of showbiz by her mother at a tender age which inspired the character “baby June” in the musical “Gypsy” based on the life of the two sisters. June Havoc is remembered fondly by many as “Baby June”. She is also remembered for her performance in “Pal Joey” (1940), a production by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart where she played the role of Gladys.

However, she won the Donaldson Award for the musical “Mexican Hayride” (1944). She was also nominated for the Tony Awards for the best director for “Marathon 33″. The death of June Havoc is a great loss for the stage which has lost a gem. She was able to mesmerize the audience with her emotional performances and later with some beautiful plays scripted by her. All the fans of the much acclaimed actress would surely miss her and she would be remembered for her impressive body of work.
