Actress Jennifer Jones Dies At 90

Jennifer JonesDec 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Hollywood actress Jennifer Jones passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, at her home in Malibu in California. She was 90 years old at the time of her death. As per the confirmations that had been given out by Leslie Denk, a spokesperson of the Norton Simon museum that she was chairman of, and that was founded by her late husband, there was nothing preternatural in her death, and that it was brought about by age. Jennifer Jones is remembered as the stereotype actress of the post war films, dark haired, dark eyed and with outstanding talent.

Jennifer Jones won an Oscar for the best actress for her lead role in the 1943 film “The Song For Bernadette”. Subsequently, she was nominated for four more Oscars which includes the 1945 film “Love Letters”, “Duel In The Sun” in 1946, “Love Is A Many Splendored Thing” in 1955 and the 1943 film ‘Since You Went Away”, in which she was nominated for the role of best supporting actress. Her last full fledged part was in “A Farewell To Arms.” The final role that she essayed was in 1974, a cameo in “The Towering Inferno.”

A much married woman, Jennifer Jones’ first husband was the actor Robert Hudson Walker. After she divorced him, she got married to the legendary producer David O. Selznick. Finally, she married the industrialist Norton Simon. After she retired from films, she devoted her time to drug related charity work, something she had already been doing. She also assumed the responsibilities of the museum founded by her husband, and after his death, was elected the chairman of the same.
