Actress and singer Lena Horne dies at age 92

Lena Horne New York, May 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actress and singer Lena Horne has died. She was 92 years old. She breathed her last at the New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. The cause of her death was not revealed to the media.

She was a legendary star on the Broadway as well as in Hollywood because she was a stunner and a brilliant actress and a beautiful singer on top of that. She had even won two Grammy awards for the album - “Lena Horne at the Waldorf-Astoria.” She also created history when she became the first female singer of the RCA label whose album was a best seller. “She’s the best female singer of songs I’ve ever heard. She gives lyrics a new meaning. She puts something into a lyric that even the author didn’t know was there,” according to the songwriter Buddy DeSylva.

She managed a brilliant performance in the “Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music”, and also won a special Tony Award in the process in the year 1981. She was the star of movies like “Cabin in the Sky” and “Stormy Weather”, both of which were released in 1943 and made her a name to reckon with, in Hollywood.
